Marc Semper graduated in 1993 from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University in Frankfurt (Germany), Center of dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery (Carolinum). He has been in private practice limited to Endodontics since 2007. Marc Semper has lectured nationally and internationally on Endodontics, Dental Traumatology as well as Dentomaxillofacial Imaging and CBCT and co-authored the German Guideline on the use of cone beam computed tomography in dentistry. Among others, he is a Board Director of the International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT), International Specialist Member of the American Association of Endodontists (AAE), Certified Member of the European Society of Endodontology (ESE) and Member of the German Association of Endodontology and Dental Traumatology (DGET). Currently he serves as a reviewer for the International Endodontic Journal.


Lecture Title: The Influence of Cone Beam Computed Tomography in Clinical Decision Making

Lecture Abstract:  In addition to the clinical examination, the evaluation of diagnostic imaging is the most important component of preoperative diagnostics in dentistry. This lecture describes the influence of cone beam computed tomography on decision making in treatment planning, particularly in endodontic treatment.

The aim of this lecture is to provide the audience with a basic understanding of how cone beam computed tomography imaging may influence treatment planning by providing substantial additional informations over two dimensional imaging modalities.

An overview of the current literature is presented and in selected cases the different diagnostic abilities of two- and three-dimensional modalities are portrayed.


Workshop Title: How Does CBCT Work and Image Quality in CBCT

Workshop Abstract:  The technical, physical and mathematical principles of cone-beam computed-tomography will be explained briefly as well as image reconstruction and setting parameters for the diagnosis in dentomaxillofacial radiology.

Particular attention is paid to the artifacts related to this technology and strategies how to reduce their negative influence on the imaging process.

Furthermore, justifications and obligations in the use of CBCT and aspects of radiation exposure will be summarized.

Case selective reconstruction modes, imaging modalities and potential applications are shown s well as clinical case studies with regard to diagnosis and treatment planning as well as fictitious therapy will be discussed.
